While playing some shows in British Columbia, we were lucky enough to meet the band cub, renowned for pioneering the “cuddlecore” genre, and we immediately bonded with them, so much so that we immediately started making plans for a tour across the United States and up and down the West Coast. By this time, Mass Giorgini had joined us as our bassist, and when we had a day off in Indiana, both bands came into Mass’s Sonic Iguana Studio in Lafayette, where in an afternoon and an evening, we recorded three songs each. “The Beautiful And Damned,” a musical retelling of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name, had been kicking around for some time, but hadn’t been finished in time for the Now album, and “Arcata” was a tribute to the town on California’s North Coast that had been home to our heroes Brent’s TV. People had been comparing us to Buddy Holly almost since we started, so we decided to cover “Words Of Love” just to see if there might be anything to it. The next morning we were back on the road again.
